Access Buffalo Terastation from windows 7/Vista

Due to updated security settings, both windows 7 and vista have access issues with Buffalo Terastation.Buffalo has released registry patch to work with their products. You can download the patch from buffalo site .

 You can downgrade the NTLM Security settings in windows 7 manually (no need patch from buffalo site )

Changing NTLM security settings in windows 7

  1. Go to start–>RUN–> type secpol.msc and press enter,
  2. In the local security policy window go to Local Policies–>Security Options
  3. In the Right pane double click  Network security: LAN Manager authentication level and select Send LM & NTLM – use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated from the dropdown list click apply and click OK
  4. Restart the system

Changing NTLM security settings in windows Vista 

  1. Go to start–>RUN–>type regedit and press enter
  2.  In the registry editor go to the key KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
  3.  In the right pane Double click on LmCompatibilityLevel  
  4.  Enter 1 in the value data box and click ok
  5. Close registry editor and restart the system.

    Your steps for changing NTLM Windows 7 worked perfect for our specific issue of accessing a Buffalo TeraStation NAS(Linux) from a TeraStation PRO WSS(Windows Storage Server 2008) allowing us to view the data.
